Question for those of the LDS faith on confessing serious sins...?

I have been inactive for 6 years and I really would like to start having the church be a big part of my life to set and example to my husband and son. I just wanted to know what exactly is the process of confessing serious sin? Before I got married I was promiscuous drank did all sorts of things that I know now are wrong and have deeply suffered the consequences. My question is how in depth do they go during the confession to the bishop part? I'm willing to go in depth if that what it takes but would just like to know ahead of time so I am prepared to be even more uncomfortable. Thanks
